Career Move

It's been a while my career had been stagnant.  It's probably due to boredom.  It's probably due to the comfort to be in comfort.  It's probably due to my finance.  It's probably due to career goal.  Whatever the reasons are, I'm ready for a change.  The time couldn't have been better when I made up my mind about a week ago.  Now I have 3 options that is all in unconfirmed statuses.
  1. Stay wherever I'm and expect for a promotion that I've been expecting since last year.
  2. Grab on to the next opportunity the headhunter from Robert Walters has to offer when they call.
  3. Apply for some of the interesting international postings that is available for application within my organization.
Now, I didn't say that the above 3 options are guaranteed.  If I were to say, all the options has a less than 50% possibilities.  Whichever option I choose, it's going to be a tough decision.  There are factors of time, money, development, opportunities and lifestyle that makes the deciding-on-a-choice a thorough thinking process.  Headache...

It's been 1044 days and counting...

This is how crazy Malaysians are when it comes to football

It was a Sunday night after my photo shooting session at lil' Genting that I thought of going to get some supper. The first mamak that I went to, I saw cars parked along both side of the main road and I knew it's a night of football with at least Manchester United playing as one of the team. So, in order to avoid the crowd I decided to go to another mamak to pack a burger and head home.

I headed for BRJ in Wangsa Maju. It's the same situation with cars parked everywhere by the road side. Fortunately I found myself a double park with my sweetie sitting in the car waiting for me to go pack my burger. And this is what I saw. A sea of about 2000 people (one half of the people is behind where I took this pix). You can see there's 3 projector from the pix, but what you can't see is another 3 more behind me. This is crazy... I got to know it's actually a match between 2 powerhouse, Manchester United and Arsenal.

For those who don't know about this area, it is in Wangsa Maju. Along a stretch of about 10 shoplots in a single row, there's 3 mamak that can easily accommodate thousands of people and a few more roadside mamak that's 10 steps away. This is how Malaysians spend their weekend... watching football.

I Screwed Up My Blog

Yah, me and my itchy hand.  I tried to change my blog template from a 2-column to a 3-column template thru those recommendation from free blog templates sites.  Seems like my attempt fail and now...  I am lazy to amend it since it's so late already...  So much of my link on my sidebar are gone.  Argggh.... since it's all gone already... I might as well revamp the template once and for all... when I have the chance.

5 Reasons That Deter Me From Going To Work

After almost a week of vacation, I have to go back to work again tomorrow. Have any of you ever feel that going to work is just for the sake of earning your 3 meals to survive and it's a torture to do so? I do. But there was a time when going to work is something I look forward to everyday, even on weekends.

So, what's deterring my urge of going to work?
  1. No colleagues that you can call friends at work, coz
a.) my friend became an authoritarian
b.) other colleagues are just waiting to devour me if I ever take a wrong step
c.) other colleagues can't wait to suck my blood knowledge and stab me from my back
d.) all colleagues have their own agenda to climb higher than I am (though I'm the same level as them, but with longer and more experience), just because my boss told them I am smart (not that I think I am)
e.) one moment they can say how smart and clever I am to my face, but the next moment they will go tell another colleague that they don't understand why the boss think I'm smart
  2. Fun environment became dramatic environment - people judge you from the way you walk, talk, laugh and wear rather than your work performance.
  3. A team became a 2 person's department - every decision used to be a team effort, now it became 2 person's decision and by the time the department knows about it, it means the decision has been made with the highest "professionalism" of how the 2 person THINK the department should be ran
  4. Talking (or so called chit-chatting) with colleagues from other department while sitting in front of the pc and working away = I'm too free and got nothing to do
  5. Leave work on time is a sin

So, I guess this is what people call for centuries, "politic". But as our career life progresses, this kinda scenario/situation increases. I must admit politic exist in almost everywhere we go or everyone we relates to, that's why I am tolerant enough to just sit and wait for the next dagger to fly towards my way from my back. Anyhow, life still goes on. I can sit down and cry about it, but I choose to write it in my blog to rant about it and "try" to forget it and also cover my arse along the way at work. Less say = Less trouble.

Do you have any more absurb reasons than mine that makes you feel that going to work is a torture? Probably you share the my sentiments at your place of work. Share it with me will ya? At least I know that I'm not the worst. Otherwise, I will think I'm the worst. Buahahaha.

Disclaimer: No names were mentioned in this blog entry. It is up to the reader(s) to interpret the colleagues and friend that were mentioned but no responsibility will be bore by the writer for any misinterpretation. It is also the responsibility of the reader and the reader himself/herself to think that they are the colleagues and friends that were mentioned in the blog entry.

My Invasion on The Land of Labuan

I've just return from Pulau Labuan. A lot of people still don't know that Labuan is part of Federal Territory (Wilayah Persekutuan) together with Putrajaya and KL. Labuan is home to my sweetie and this is the first time I'm there. It's nearest to Brunei and Kota Kinabalu.Labuan is a duty-free island exactly like Langkawi. Dr M tried to encourage offshore finance in this island in the 90s hence it became a duty-free island and home to almost all the banks that exist in Malaysia today. You would ask, why such a small island and so many banks, that's because all the international banks have to have an office or something like that in Labuan before they were allowed to step into any other part of Malaysia to open a branch. But most of these banks opened a proxy office in Labuan since it has such a small population.

I've had some tight schedule during my first trip to my sweetie's beloved home. First two days were about buying offering stuff for Qing-Ming (tomb sweeping). My sweetie's dad left them a couple of years back, so it's about buying some paper made slippers, crocodile brand polo-t, cigarette and millions of hell-money. Hehehe... It's really fun.
A few culture-shock that I have includes:
  1. The thick mee-hoon (they called it the China, "Gui Ling" mee-hoon)
  2. The mandarin word "ba" that is used at the end of every sentence, juz like our "ma"
  3. The side parking that I always see the car enter the parking spot head first instead of butt first
  4. Related to item #3, since you enter side parking with the head first, 95% of cars in Labuan park their butt outside the line
  5. About 50% of the people there are Phillipinos and Indonesians
  6. Majority of the Malays in Labuan speaks in Bahasa Indonesia, even though they are Malaysia citizen
  7. The road signs, traffic lights, lamp posts and even the trees in Labuan are shorter than usual
Then sweetie brought me around the whole island on the remaining 2.5 days in Labuan. Love that place. If you think of buying a bottle of plain water at RM2, you might as well buy a bottle of Heineken at RM2.60.
Took quite some pictures of sunsets and beaches. Will post them up once I finish processing and sort them out.
